Trevor Ablett and Reg Cooper were making pocket knives and penknives for over fifty years. They served apprenticeships in the trade in Sheffield and between them have seen the craft artisan based approach change beyond recognition. Because Trevor is now deceased one of his material suppliers who participated in the making of his knives has recreated one of his knives for us. Because the penknives are produced with natural materials the handles will differ from those in the illustrations. The Buffalo horn handles range from very light to dark and we cannot supply handles to particular colour specifications. They are truly little mesters as the independent artisans in the Sheffield knife and cutlery trade were known. You can see Trevor Ablett in Michael Portillo’s  Great British Railway Journey’s when he visited Sheffield. Whilst Trevor is now deceased we have recreated one of his knives. We occasionally get some of his second hand knives and when we have them they are below.

Remember you need to be 18+ to buy these  hand made Sheffield penknives and you are required to certify that at checkout. You need to ensure that in your Country or legal jurisdiction you observe the law regarding the import, carrying and use of these knives

In production are some of the knives made with same materials and parts from the supplier of some of Trevor Abletts knife parts. The first is now available and will appear below.

The first of the reproduction Trevors knives made by the person who made parts for them is the new shape rosewood with square brass bolsters and stamped made in Sheffield but not of course with Trevors logo. These are entirely handmade as the original jigs are not available.

This is the Trevor Ablett recreated sheepsfoot rosewood handle in his new shape with square brass bolsters. It’s seven inches long overall with a sheepsfoot blade. A very nice knife.  It is the same knife as Trevor’s and the same shape with a carbon steel blade. It’s an elegant distinctive Sheffield made folding knife and quite different to the other knives we have. It’s  handmade and a classic Sheffield made knife. It has the same fittings as supplied to Trevor Ablett but without his logo. Stock T1 53
